Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister, said that the killing of the three detainees is a tragedy beyond belief, and the entire Israel is in mourning this evening, according to Israeli media.
Netanyahu added: "I hold the hands of our soldiers committed to recovering our detainees in Gaza, even if that costs them their lives."
The Israeli army announced, this Friday evening, that it killed "by mistake" 3 of the Israeli prisoners in Gaza.
It explained that the incident took place in the Shuja'iyya neighborhood in Gaza, suggesting that the three prisoners initially succeeded in escaping their captors, before being killed by "friendly fire," as the Israeli forces present there believed they posed a "threat."
A spokesperson for the Israeli army, Daniel Hagari, said: "The armed forces take full responsibility for what happened," confirming that an investigation into the incident has been opened. The spokesperson expressed "deep regret over the tragic incident."
The army announced the identities of two of the killed prisoners: Yotam Haim, who was kidnapped from Kibbutz Kfar Aza in the October 7 attack, and Samer al-Talalqa, who was kidnapped from the kibbutz a year ago, and the family of the third prisoner requested that his identity not be disclosed. The bodies of the prisoners were returned to Israel.
With this, the number of prisoners whose deaths have been confirmed by the army rises to 22 out of about 250 people.
In the same context, the White House said, in breaking news reported by Cairo News Channel, that the Israeli army killing 3 of the detainees in the Gaza Strip is heartbreaking and tragic.
The White House added that they "believe that the Israelis will review the killing of the three detainees and find out how it happened."
It continued that "the transit of commercial ships in the Red Sea has now become more dangerous due to Houthi attacks."
It pointed out that the White House will announce more details about the naval task force in the coming days.
