One year after the attempted assassination of U.S. President Donald Trump during a campaign rally, the Secret Service is undergoing significant changes in its methods and security procedures, while major questions continue to surround the agency regarding the details of the incident and failures in his protection.
According to a report by CTV News, several senior officials in the Secret Service have been replaced, surveillance and field response teams have been reorganized, and security screening protocols and coordination with local law enforcement agencies have been reviewed.
Despite these measures, critics and lawmakers assert that investigations have not fully addressed key questions, most notably how the gunman was able to reach the shooting site without being detected in advance, and how the response was delayed by precious seconds that could have led to Trump’s death.
It is noteworthy that the assassination attempt occurred during a campaign speech in Pennsylvania, when a gunman fired shots at Trump’s platform, resulting in minor injuries to him and the death of one security personnel.
While security officials affirm that the current changes have enhanced the ability to detect threats and respond quickly, observers point out that restoring full confidence will require greater transparency and accurate answers regarding the shortcomings that allowed the attack to occur.
