A large fire destroyed several homes in Richmond Hill, Ontario. Emergency crews responded to the fire on Duncan Road shortly after 11:30 PM on Sunday after neighbors in the area reported hearing several explosions.

Tom Rayborn, Deputy Chief of the Richmond Hill Fire Department, said it took about five minutes for the fire trucks to respond, and by the time the trucks arrived at a sprawling under-construction home, the fire was already fully engulfing it. The fire spread to two adjacent homes shortly thereafter.

Rayborn also said from the scene that the home where the fire broke out was under construction, and the flames spread very quickly in that home, driven by strong winds toward neighboring houses.

He added, "Fortunately, the residents left early," and no reports of injuries were received.

Rayborn mentioned that eight trucks and about 35 firefighters battled the fire.

Fire crews from Vaughan, Central York, and Markham also intervened to assist, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
