Eyewitnesses told CNN that hundreds of Israeli settlers surrounded Palestinian villages and attacked residents throughout the occupied West Bank after the body of a missing Israeli boy was found.
The body of Benjamin Ahimeir (14 years old) was found in the Malachi Hashalom area, and the Israeli army stated he was killed in a "terrorist attack."
The cause of death is not yet clear, and the Israeli army has not yet provided any evidence that this was a "terrorist attack."
Shortly thereafter, videos obtained by CNN showed settlers setting fire to homes and vehicles in the village of Duma, southeast of Nablus. The footage shows thick smoke filling the air, while settlers fire shots in the area. Eyewitnesses reported that settlers broke into the homes of residents, leading to clashes with Palestinians.
In one video obtained by CNN from Duma, one man described the situation as "a street war."
Videos circulated on social media showed clashes between Palestinians and settlers in the villages of Deir Debwan and Beitin, east of Ramallah. Palestinians were seen throwing stones at settlers, while Israeli military vehicles fired tear gas to disperse the crowds.
The recent attacks by settlers come a day after a widespread attack in the village of Al-Mughayer, east of Ramallah, which resulted in the death of a Palestinian youth amid a search for Ahimeir. About 25 others were injured in the attack, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Ramallah.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that authorities are searching for those who killed Ahimeir and urged Israelis not to obstruct them.
"The heinous murder of the boy Benjamin Ahimeir is a serious crime. My heartfelt condolences go to his family," the Israeli Prime Minister's office said in a statement.
The statement added that "Israeli army and Shin Bet forces are conducting a large-scale manhunt for the murderers and anyone who assisted them."
The Prime Minister stated that Israeli security forces are carrying out "intensive operational and intelligence activities" in the area and in Palestinian villages, urging Israeli citizens to allow them "to carry out their work without obstruction."
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant urged the public on Saturday to avoid taking the law into their own hands.
In a post on Twitter, Galant said, "I urge the public to call on security forces to act quickly in chasing down the terrorists - retaliatory actions will make it difficult for our fighters to carry out their mission - the law must not be placed in anyone's hands."
Videos obtained by CNN showed an increasing Israeli military presence at a checkpoint near the town of Sinjal, northeast of Ramallah.
The Palestinian Red Crescent stated in a statement on Saturday that more than ten Palestinians had arrived at hospitals across the West Bank, most of whom were injured by gunfire.
Violence in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem has escalated since the October 7 attacks. The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Ramallah reports that at least 462 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces or in settler attacks.
