The Hamas movement announced, in a statement issued on Sunday, its approval of an Egyptian proposal to form a "Community Support Committee" of independent national figures to temporarily manage the Gaza Strip until general elections are held, including local, legislative, and presidential levels. This came after a meeting between a delegation from the movement, headed by Mohammed Darwish, and the head of the Egyptian General Intelligence, Major General Hassan Rashad, in Cairo. The two sides discussed several important issues, including the reconstruction of Gaza, and the movement expressed its appreciation for Egypt's role in supporting the Palestinian cause, especially in facing attempts of displacement.

According to the statement, the committee aims to maintain the stability of the sector and meet the needs of citizens during the transitional phase. Hamas confirmed its support for Egyptian efforts to promote Palestinian national unity, praising the outcomes of the recent Arab summit and the plans established for the reconstruction of Gaza. The movement indicated that the committee will assume administrative responsibilities temporarily until the atmosphere is prepared for general elections with the participation of all Palestinian forces and factions.
