The Israeli newspaper Haaretz revealed today, Tuesday, that high-ranking security sources in Israel denied the existence of definitive confirmation regarding the death of Muhammad Sinwar, the brother of Hamas leader in the Gaza Strip, Yehya Sinwar, contrary to previous hints made by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The sources clarified that “security agencies do not yet possess conclusive evidence proving the death of Muhammad Sinwar,” indicating the ongoing ambiguity surrounding the fate of some field leaders in Hamas since the beginning of the war on Gaza.
Netanyahu hinted in press statements that the Israeli army succeeded in “neutralizing” prominent leadership figures in the movement, without providing concrete evidence. However, Haaretz's statements citing security officials indicate a gap between political rhetoric and actual intelligence data.
These statements represent the latest episode in the rising debate within Israel concerning the management of the war and the conflicting messages between the political and security establishments, at a time when military operations in Gaza continue amid increasing international pressure for a ceasefire.
