In an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council dedicated to discussing the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, Algeria, as a non-permanent member of the council, affirmed that “no one is safe in Gaza, and the attacks reach everyone without exception, including women, children, humanitarian, medical, and journalistic personnel.”
The Algerian representative to the United Nations stated that what is happening in the sector represents “a gross violation of international humanitarian law, and a blatant challenge to all agreements and treaties,” emphasizing the need for an immediate ceasefire and the opening of humanitarian crossings unconditionally.
Algeria called on the international community to assume its responsibilities, especially the permanent member states of the Security Council, in order to put an end to the ongoing aggression, ensure the protection of civilians, and work towards paving the way for a comprehensive and just political solution to the Palestinian issue, based on the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Algeria also reiterated its total rejection of all forms of normalization with the occupation, in light of what it described as “the daily crimes committed against the defenseless Palestinian people,” calling for holding those responsible accountable in international courts.
