The Ontario Police Oversight Authority said a 21-year-old woman was found dead in a Thunder Bay home after officers did not respond to a 911 call about disturbances at the house.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) stated in a press release that Thunder Bay police received the call at 2 a.m. on December 30 from a home on Ray Boulevard, but the officers did not respond to the scene.
The oversight authority added that when the police received a second 911 call, also from the home, to "cancel" the first call, the officers again did not respond.
An SIU press release continued that a third 911 call was made from the home to report the woman's death, and only then did the officers respond.
The police did not immediately respond to a request for comment, and an SIU spokesperson said the investigation is still in its early stages and more information will be released "in due course."
