Officials of Hyundai Motor and Kia Corp, the two largest car manufacturers in South Korea, announced that 5 million eco-friendly cars have been sold in the global market over the past 15 years.
The two companies said their strong sales are due to the growth of the electric vehicle market, adding that they intend to expand their production of this type of car during the current year.
South Korea's Yonhap agency quoted officials as saying that the two companies sold 5.11 million units of eco-friendly cars by the end of last January, with sales exceeding 5 million units after 15 years since the start of selling such eco-friendly models.
Hyundai and Kia also sold 1.36 million eco-friendly cars last year alone.
