Two people died and two others were injured after a house fire in Mississauga early Tuesday morning.
The fire broke out on Bromsgrove Road, near Winston Churchill Boulevard and Royal Windsor Drive, at around 3 a.m.
Darren Rizzi, Fire Chief of Mississauga, said at the scene on Tuesday: “We arrived at the scene after our firefighters reported heavy flames, thick smoke, and high heat conditions in the house.”
Two people were reported to have evacuated the house onto the front yard and were seriously injured. They were transported by paramedics in Peel.
Rizzi added that crews managed to rescue two people from inside the house, both seriously injured. Paramedics told CP24 that these two patients, an elderly woman and a middle-aged man, were unresponsive when transported to the hospital.
The police confirmed that the two patients pulled from the house later died at the hospital.
Rizzi told reporters: “With deep sadness, we know this was a fatal fire.”
The other two victims, a man and a woman, remain in the hospital. Police said the female victim is in critical condition while the man sustained only minor injuries.
Police said they have not publicly identified the deceased at this time as their next of kin have not yet been notified.
On Tuesday morning, the crew confirmed that a dog and a cat were also rescued from the house after the fire, but the dog did not survive.
Rizzi initially said she believes the fire was “suspicious in nature” and that the investigation into the cause and origin will be referred to Peel Regional Police.
