Ward’s Island Association club, which was a main headquarters on Toronto Island for more than eight decades, was destroyed after a major fire broke out early Sunday morning.

Toronto Fire Services (TFS) said it responded to a structural fire call on Toronto Island around 2:20 AM, where the club, which also houses Island Café, was fully on fire when crews arrived at the scene, and crews continued to extinguish the fire until around 6 AM.

Photos from the scene show the building has completely collapsed, with burnt debris and wood fragments scattered throughout the area.

The club, built by members from 1937 to 1938, is located south of Ward's Island Ferry Docks at 20 Withrow Street, and has been used to host weddings, anniversaries, birthday parties, and reunions.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is still unknown at this time.
