A 23-year-old man from Toronto has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder after shooting his family members on Tuesday in the Regent Park community of the city.

The police were called to the area of East Dundas Street and Parliament Street around 1:30 pm.

Witnesses said officers found three victims there, two men and a woman, who had been shot.

One of the male victims was pronounced dead at the scene, and another died later in the hospital.

Meanwhile, the female victim is suffering from non-life-threatening injuries.

Court documents have now identified the victims as Najwa Kongolo and Didier Kongolo. Their ages have not been disclosed yet.

They are the 14th and 15th murder victims in Toronto this year.

The police said the suspect was arrested shortly afterward in the area following a foot chase that resulted in two officers being injured.

There are no other outstanding suspects.

Benedict Johnson Kongolo, 23, of Toronto, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
