The police said a five-year-old child died from serious injuries caused by a folding bed in a hotel room in Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier, near the city of Quebec, on Friday.
According to Quebec police, first responders were called around 5:15 p.m. to a hotel on Valcartier Street, in Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier.
Sergeant Stéphane Tremblay, spokesperson for the special security forces, said, "Unfortunately, his condition deteriorated and the child died from his injuries," and due to the child's age, the investigation was automatically transferred to the major crimes division of the Quebec police.
The circumstances surrounding the child's death remained unclear on Friday. Tremblay said witnesses are being interviewed and forensic technicians will examine the scene; the coroner's office has also been notified.
