Canada has witnessed a rise in the number of measles cases in recent days, and the number of infections has doubled, causing concern among Canadians.

In a statement issued yesterday, Wednesday, PHAC reported 40 cases of measles in Canada during this year.

These cases were reported in four provinces, with 24 active measles cases confirmed in Canada as of March 9.

The health authorities stated that seven people infected required hospital care.

The Ministry of Health pointed out that the majority of infections in Canada are among unvaccinated individuals, most of whom are children.

Some cases were also acquired through international travel infection, which remains

one of the causes of concern for the spread of more infections in Canada, as the entry of travelers to and from Canada is a source of infection, while others were infected within Canada.

Theresa Tam, Chief Public Health Officer of Canada, emphasized the importance of vaccination, especially among children.

Measles infects children more than others, and school-aged children in Canada do not receive enough vaccination in some areas.

She added: "I advise parents and caregivers to ensure their children receive all measles vaccines according to the regional vaccination schedule."

PHAC stated that those who received two doses of the measles vaccine, or if they had previously contracted the measles virus, have a significantly reduced risk of infection, noting that two doses of the vaccine are approximately 100% effective in preventing measles infection.

It is worth noting that the main symptoms of measles infection include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes or tearing, and in some cases, infected individuals may see white spots inside the mouth two to three days after the onset of symptoms.
