Toronto – Arab Canada News

With the start of the summer season in Ontario, the Public Health Agency has issued warnings about a range of health threats that increase during warm weather, including the rising activity of mosquitoes, the return of measles, and gaps in vaccination rates.

The report mentioned that mosquito-borne viruses, such as the West Nile virus, have become more common with rising temperatures, urging residents to use insect repellent and cover their skin, especially in the evening hours.

Health officials also warned of an increase in measles cases, particularly among children who are not fully vaccinated, which threatens the return of outbreaks that had disappeared for many years.

The report also pointed out the continued decline in routine vaccination rates due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving large numbers of children and adolescents without adequate immunization.

In a related context, authorities noted that the list of summer risks also includes excessive sun exposure, dehydration, and severe heatwaves, which can pose serious threats to the elderly and those with chronic illnesses.

The Public Health Department urged residents to adhere to preventive measures, including drinking sufficient amounts of water, avoiding prolonged sun exposure, and consulting doctors if symptoms such as fever, rash, or severe headache arise.

More information and guidelines can be found on the official website of Public Health Ontario.
