The long weekend for Canada Day is just around the corner.
The official holiday, which falls on Monday this year, will see numerous events and celebrations throughout the city, along with the closure of some businesses and services.
Here’s everything you need to know to plan for Canada Day 2024:
Will the TTC be operating on Canada Day?
The TTC will operate on modified holiday service levels on Monday. This means all routes will follow their Sunday schedules but will start a little earlier – at 6 a.m.
Any routes that do not typically operate on Sundays will not run on Canada Day, according to the TTC.
What to do on Canada Day in Toronto
The city is hosting free family-friendly activities at Thompson Memorial Park, starting at 9 a.m. on Monday.
The celebrations kick off with a free pancake breakfast and include live music, a artisan market, a craft station, and face painting.
Free admission will also be offered at the Royal Ontario Museum, along with Toronto’s nine historical museums scattered throughout the city.
At Woodbine Park, free concerts featuring 15 rock and roll acts will take place on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.
At 10 p.m., fireworks displays will be held at Ashbridges Bay Park in East Toronto, Centennial Park in Etobicoke, Milliken Park in Scarborough, and Stan Wadlow Park in East York.
Fireworks will also take place at Canada’s Wonderland at 10 p.m. for ticketed guests.
There will be no public firework displays at Nathan Phillips Square, Mel Lastman Square, or Fort York National Historic Site.
Canada Day is one of two days when Toronto residents can set off fireworks on their own property with a permit. (The other is Victoria Day.)
Residential displays will only be permitted until 11 p.m. on Monday. The city is asking residents to report any misuse by calling 3-1-1.
