The paramedic service in Ottawa confirms that a man, the restaurant owner (Abdullah Othman), was taken to the hospital in stable condition on Sunday due to a fire that occurred at the Aleppo restaurant located on Bank Street.
Bank Street was closed early Sunday afternoon between Heron Road and Alta Vista Drive while Ottawa fire services dealt with the fire near Ridgemont Avenue.
Firefighters arriving at the scene after 11 a.m. found heavy smoke and flames.
This prompted the firefighters to request additional personnel and equipment.
A hose was also brought inside the building, and the fire was under control by around noon.
Due to the fire, multiple OC Transpo routes were changed to avoid the area of the fire.
Just before 1 p.m., police opened the northbound lane of Bank Street to traffic, but the southbound direction remained closed in the area for cleanup.
The fire has been controlled, and Bank Street has reopened to regular traffic.
