With the celebrations of Canada Day, which symbolizes independence and the attachment to identity for all Canadians, and in light of recent tensions between Canada and the United States, a large number of citizens expressed their national pride and refusal to allow any harm to the sovereignty of their country by raising the maple leaf flag in abundance, following statements by U.S. President Donald Trump hinting at the possibility of incorporating Canada into the United States or pressuring it politically and economically.

According to media reports, this symbolic wave came at a time when American rhetoric is escalating, linking trade and defense issues to Washington's demands to expand its strategic influence in the region.

Images circulated on social media showed Canadian citizens decorating their homes, stores, and cars with Canadian flags, viewing this as a clear message rejecting any threat to national sovereignty.

In statements from some participants in these initiatives, they confirmed that raising the flag expresses the "dignity of the Canadian people" and "rejection of foreign dictates regardless of their sources."

Although the Canadian government has not issued a direct comment on the wave of flag raising, it confirmed in previous statements that Canada "will always defend its sovereignty and independence of decision," while analysts see that these popular movements reflect widespread concern over any attempt to undermine the status quo between the two countries.

This comes as Canada prepares to celebrate its national holiday amid a climate of political anticipation and diplomatic tension.
