Bangladesh announced its support for South Africa in the case filed by the latter against Israel before the International Court of Justice, accusing it of genocide in the Gaza Strip.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangladesh confirmed, in a statement published on Sunday evening via the "X" platform (formerly Twitter), its support for the request submitted by South Africa to take measures against the Israeli occupation before the International Court of Justice regarding Israel's violation of its obligations under the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
It also expressed its support for Pretoria's request to take urgent measures, including obliging the Israeli occupation to stop all military operations in the Gaza Strip and allowing safe and unhindered entry of humanitarian aid to all areas in Gaza.
It affirmed that "these urgent measures are a necessary and fundamental step to end the ongoing humanitarian disaster in Gaza."
It pointed to the fall of thousands of civilian victims among the residents of Gaza as a result of the continuous attacks by Israeli forces, most of whom are women and children, stressing that "these deliberate acts of aggression represent a blatant disregard for and violation of international law, including the Genocide Convention."
It continued: "Bangladesh calls on all countries to respect their obligations under the Genocide Convention and to prevent and punish the crimes of genocide."
It also renewed the call for an immediate ceasefire and the safe and urgent entry of life-saving aid on a large scale into the Gaza Strip.
