The Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, released a video on Friday featuring the Israeli soldier held captive by them, Eidan Alexander, who also holds American citizenship, in which he criticized the Israeli government and the American administration for what he described as "negligence" in seeking his release.
In the recording, "Alexander" stated that he feels he has been "deceived" by all parties, asserting that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "controls the state like a dictator," adding that he heard three weeks ago about Hamas's readiness to release him, but the government rejected the deal and "left him behind."
He also addressed American President Donald Trump, saying: "I believed you would succeed in bringing me out of here alive, why did I fall victim to Netanyahu's lies?" expressing his disappointment over the lack of tangible results despite protests held in Israel in his support.
Alexander concluded his statement with an emotional message, saying: "I want to believe that you will not see me for the last time alive through this recording," expressing his increasing concern over shelling near his place of detention.
Response from the family of the captive soldier
In an official statement, Eidan Alexander's family said: "While we celebrate Passover here in the United States, our family in Israel is preparing to sit around the holiday table," confirming that Eidan, whom they described as "the only soldier," immigrated to Israel and joined the Golani Brigade with the aim of "protecting Israel and its people," but he is still in captivity.
The statement added: "On this occasion that symbolizes freedom, we affirm that this holiday means nothing as long as Eidan and 58 other captives have not yet returned to their homes."
