Durham Regional Police said a woman was taken to hospital after suffering a neck injury during a domestic dispute in Whitby, Ontario, and a 40-year-old man faces several assault-related charges.

The police added that the incident occurred on February 16 at around 3:50 p.m. at a gas station near Brock Street South and Consumers Drive.

The police added that a 34-year-old woman sustained serious stab wounds to her neck. She was taken to hospital in a non-life-threatening condition.

Investigators said the suspect fled the area in a car with a young child. They were located shortly afterward with the assistance of Ontario Provincial Police.

The police said the child was unharmed, and a 40-year-old man from Mississauga has been charged with aggravated assault, weapons offenses, and failure to comply with a release order.

The police said they know no boundaries and can affect people of all ages, genders, races, and socio-economic backgrounds, and domestic violence can take many forms, including physical, emotional, financial, and psychological harm.

"This incident serves as a stark reminder that we must come together as a community to support those affected by domestic violence and work towards creating safer environments for everyone."
