WestJet, the Canadian airline, announced the suspension of two international flights from Alberta to the United States, including the direct flight from Edmonton to Orlando, Florida, as part of a comprehensive review of its flight network and operational capacity distribution.

The company stated in an official announcement that the suspension, effective from early May, is part of its efforts to "stabilize service and enhance efficiency," noting that affected travelers will be notified directly and provided with alternative options or a full refund for their tickets.

The canceled flights are:

• Edmonton – Orlando

• Calgary – Fort Myers

The cancellation of the Edmonton – Orlando flight is a setback for travelers wishing to visit American tourist destinations, especially during the summer season, as the flight was considered one of the preferred routes for families heading to Florida's recreational resorts.

The decision has drawn local criticism, as officials at Edmonton International Airport expressed their disappointment, considering that the reduction of international routes limits the city's ability to attract tourism and investment.

WestJet confirmed that the adjustments are part of a broader plan to redistribute resources to higher-demand destinations, while committing to routinely review its network based on market data.
