Ottawa – Arab Canada News
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney affirmed that a solution to the recent crisis between Israel and Iran should be accompanied by a comprehensive reduction of hostilities in the region, primarily a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
In official statements made from Ottawa, Carney emphasized that the Canadian government prioritizes restoring calm and alleviating human suffering. He said:
“We are particularly focused on a ceasefire in Gaza and fully resuming humanitarian aid without restrictions.”
The Prime Minister added that his country is working closely with international partners to restore stability and create conditions for the resumption of diplomatic efforts, noting that the ongoing violence in the occupied Palestinian territories threatens regional security and exacerbates the humanitarian crisis.
In this context, Carney pointed to the tense situation in the West Bank, explaining:
“We are also focused on stopping the violence in the West Bank, which is why we have taken punitive measures against several Israeli government ministers responsible for the escalation.”
Canada had previously announced sanctions against two Israeli ministers over statements and positions that Ottawa deemed “provocative to tensions,” a move that sparked angry reactions from Israel.
Carney affirmed that his country will continue to coordinate with the United Nations and major powers with the aim of achieving a permanent ceasefire and ensuring the protection of civilians, including facilitating the entry of aid into the Gaza Strip and ensuring access to basic services for affected populations.
He concluded by saying:
“Resolving the crisis with Iran cannot be isolated from addressing the roots of the broader conflict… and must be accompanied by practical steps to reduce violence and launch a comprehensive political process.”
