U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo stated that former President Donald Trump is expected to announce today a decision regarding the tariffs imposed on Canada and Mexico, indicating that a potential solution may be "in the middle" between the demands of all parties.
Raimondo added, during her statements, that the United States is in ongoing consultations with Canada and Mexico on this issue, confirming that both sides have expressed their willingness to make further efforts to reach a settlement.
These statements come amid rising trade tensions, following Washington's imposition of new tariffs of 25% on certain imports from Canada and Mexico, in addition to increased tariffs on Chinese goods. This move has raised concerns among many economic parties, amid warnings of its potential impact on prices and economic growth.
For his part, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau described these tariffs as "unjustified," affirming that his country will take steps to respond as soon as possible.
Trump is expected to announce his final decision today, amid widespread anticipation about whether the U.S. administration will ease the tariffs or continue the trade escalation with its major partners.
