Washington – Arab Canada News
In a move that sparked widespread controversy, U.S. President Donald Trump commented on the ongoing federal elections in Canada on Monday, once again expressing his desire to annex Canada and make it the fifty-first state of the United States.
Trump wrote on social media: “Canada could become the beloved fifty-first state. There will be no artificial borders drawn. Imagine how wonderful this land would be,” adding: “Free access without borders. Everything positive with no negatives. Just as it should be.”
Trump indicated that the United States “can no longer support Canada with hundreds of billions of dollars each year as it did in the past,” asserting that the continuation of this support “is meaningless unless Canada becomes a U.S. state.”
Trump's remarks come at a time when Canada is facing pivotal elections to choose a Prime Minister capable of dealing with escalating tensions with Washington amid the trade war and recent U.S. threats to annex the country.
Although Trump’s name does not appear on Canadian ballots, his presence has overshadowed the electoral scene, as his influence and political orientations are a source of concern and a focal point of intense discussion across various Canadian circles.
In his message, Trump urged Canadian voters to “elect the man who has the strength and wisdom necessary to cut taxes in half and increase military power free of charge to the highest level in the world,” implicitly referring to his preference for a candidate who aligns more closely with his policies.
