US President Donald Trump confirmed that he is "not worried at all" about his administration's decision to lay off more than 300 employees from the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), before the administration reversed its decision and reinstated many of them. This was stated by Trump in response to criticisms regarding the impact of this move on nuclear weapons security, where he said: "I am not worried at all about the layoffs. I think we just have to do what we have to do."
The Trump administration had previously laid off up to 350 employees from the National Nuclear Security Administration unexpectedly, which drew widespread criticism from nuclear security experts and members of Congress. Later, the administration reversed its decision and reinstated all the laid-off employees except for about 25.
This move sparked chaos within the agency, as officials rushed to address the fallout after several members of Congress submitted petitions to Energy Secretary Chris Wright to reverse the decision, warning of dire consequences for national security.
