Washington - U.S. President Donald Trump delivered a speech before a joint session of Congress on Tuesday, addressing his plans for economic reform, tightening immigration policies, and enhancing national security, amid sharp political tensions in the chamber, where Democratic members interrupted him from the very first moments, prompting House Speaker Mike Johnson to order the removal of one member who refused to sit down.

Immigration and Mass Deportation

The highlight of Trump's speech was his announcement of the "largest deportation operation in the history of the United States," emphasizing that his administration's policies aim to end illegal immigration, which he said has worsened during the previous administration of President Joe Biden. Trump accused the former administration of allowing 100,000 migrants to enter monthly, describing most of them as "criminals and lunatics." He also vowed to close the borders, which he said the Democrats left "open," referring to his plan to issue a "golden card" that would allow the wealthy to come to the United States under special conditions.

Attacking Biden and the Democrats

Trump did not hold back his criticisms of his political opponent Joe Biden, labeling him as "the worst president in the history of the United States," holding him responsible for rising inflation and the prices of food and energy. He accused the Democrats of refusing to acknowledge his achievements, saying: "They will not applaud or stand in appreciation of the achievements I accomplish no matter what I do."

Foreign Policy and the War in Ukraine

On the international front, Trump announced his intention to "end the war in Ukraine," without revealing details of his plan to achieve that. He also spoke about redrawing U.S. foreign policies, boasting about his withdrawal from the World Health Organization, which he described as "corrupt," as well as from the Paris Climate Agreement.

Economic Reforms and Ending Waste

On economic matters, Trump asserted that "saving the economy is his priority," indicating that his administration inherited "an economic disaster and a nightmare of inflation" from the previous administration, which he accused of raising food and energy prices. He revealed his plans to provide broad tax relief, urging Congress to support it, stating that the Democrats "will benefit from it too, or else no one will vote for them."

He also announced the establishment of a "Government Efficiency Committee" to monitor government spending, chaired by billionaire Elon Musk, emphasizing that he will stop what he described as "financial waste," particularly in social assistance and immigration programs. He claimed there are "people registered in Social Security aged over 160 and 200 years," hinting at corruption in the system.

Increasing Domestic Production and Energy

Trump reaffirmed his determination to expand oil production and mining for rare earth minerals within the United States, mentioning a massive project to build a natural gas pipeline in Alaska, with investments estimated in trillions of dollars. He also unveiled plans for local manufacturing, announcing tax breaks for car loans "but only if the cars are made in America."

New Tariffs

In a move that could heighten trade tensions, Trump announced that starting April 2, new tariffs would be imposed on countries that impose tariffs on American exports, including Canada and Mexico, threatening to escalate the trade war between the United States and its major trading partners.

Reforming the Federal Administration

Trump pledged to make radical changes in the federal government, assuring that he would fire "any federal employee who opposes the implementation of his agenda," noting that "the era of tyranny by unelected bureaucrats has ended."

Economic Optimism and Massive Investments

Despite the challenges, Trump stated that the United States is experiencing a "golden age," claiming that "citizens' confidence in the country’s economic direction is at its highest levels." He pointed to new investments that reached $1.7 trillion in recent weeks, including $500 billion from Apple, and a $2 trillion pledge from the SoftBank Group.

Rapid Executive Actions

Trump concluded his speech by mentioning that he signed approximately 100 executive orders and took more than 400 actions to restore "logic, safety, optimism, and prosperity" to the United States, vowing to continue working on his agenda swiftly, saying: "We achieved in 43 days more than most administrations achieve in 4 or 8 years.. and we are just getting started."
