Toronto police revealed on Thursday the identities of the two victims in the double homicide that shook the Riverdale neighborhood east of the city, in an incident described as horrific.
The victims have been identified as 67-year-old Sherry Lee Barrett and 30-year-old Joel Chenille. Their bodies were found inside an apartment building located near the intersection of Danforth and Greenwood Streets last Tuesday.
The police stated that they received a report around 11:55 AM, and upon arrival at the scene, they found two individuals unconscious, and they were pronounced dead at the location. Details regarding the injuries sustained by the victims have not been disclosed, but investigators confirmed that the incident is being treated as a double homicide.
Investigators noted that a suspect has been identified, but no arrests have been announced yet. The police urged local residents to cooperate and share any information or footage from surveillance cameras that may be available, especially from Monday and Tuesday.
Investigations are still ongoing, while authorities emphasized that this crime does not appear to be random and does not currently pose a direct threat to community safety.
This incident is one of the most notable murders recorded in the city this year, amid increasing calls for enhanced security presence in residential neighborhoods.
