The Canadian Liberal Party is meeting in Ottawa to select a new leader to succeed Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who has led the party since 2013. The race is being led by former Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney, who has raised significant amounts for his campaign.
Competing with him are former Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, Member of Parliament Karina Gould, and Montreal businessman Frank Baylis.
The result is expected to be known later today, amid speculation that the winner may call for an early election in a few weeks. The party also intends to honor Trudeau at the conclusion of the event.
