The king began his official visit to Canada today, Monday, with two official meetings with Governor General Mary Simon and Prime Minister Mark Carney in the capital, Ottawa, as part of the first day's program of the royal visit, which will last for several days and include a number of Canadian cities.

The king arrived in Ottawa earlier today amid an official reception, where he was greeted by several senior Canadian officials. During his meeting with the Governor General, the historical relations between the British crown and Canada were reviewed, in addition to discussing the role of the royal institution in promoting national unity and cultural diversity in the country.

In his meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney, the two sides discussed issues of a symbolic and community nature, focusing on the importance of continuing constitutional relations and the royal traditions that form part of Canadian political identity.
