The Israeli occupation army announced on Saturday that it had launched "intensive strikes" on the Gaza Strip in recent hours, as part of the "initial phases" of a new attack on the besieged Palestinian territory.
Expanding operations to achieve goals
In a statement published on Telegram, the Israeli occupation army explained that these strikes are part of "expanding the battle in the Gaza Strip" with the aim of achieving all war objectives, including the release of hostages and defeating Hamas. Israeli army spokesperson, Avichai Adraee, confirmed that "the army has begun to carry out extensive strikes and mobilize forces in controlled areas within Gaza," as part of a campaign named "Gideon’s Chariots."
Preparations to expand operations
The army indicated that this operation is part of preparations to expand military operations on the ground, where efforts are being made to achieve "operational control" in Gaza areas, as part of efforts aimed at "liberating the captives and dismantling Hamas."
Timing of the attack and Trump’s visit
Israeli media reported that the decision to expand operations came after the completion of U.S. President Donald Trump's visit to the region, which did not result in any new agreement regarding Gaza. Trump had concluded his Gulf tour without achieving any diplomatic progress.
Increase in casualty toll in Gaza
For its part, the Palestinian News Agency (Wafa) reported that at least 100 people were killed in the northern Gaza Strip due to intensive Israeli airstrikes since Thursday evening. The Health Ministry affiliated with Hamas confirmed that the death toll reached 93, while the number of injured exceeded 200.
Continued escalation and growing humanitarian concerns
As the Israeli military escalation in Gaza continues, concerns are growing about the humanitarian situation in the besieged territory, where fighting intensifies amid deteriorating living conditions.
