The President of the Canadian Home Builders' Association praised the cost reductions approved by the new Liberal government, describing them as a positive step to support the construction sector and reduce the financial burdens on companies.
In his remarks to the media, the president expressed his satisfaction with the measures taken by Prime Minister Mark Carney's government, noting that these actions would enhance investments and lower the costs of construction projects.
However, the president strongly opposed the Liberal government's plan to create a public housing agency, considering that this move could harm the private construction sector and lead to unwanted government intervention in the real estate market.
He explained that establishing a public housing agency could lead to a government monopoly and decrease competition among private companies, urging the government to adopt policies that encourage the private sector to increase housing supply rather than create new public bodies.
These statements come amid a broad discussion on ways to address the housing crisis in Canada, where opinions vary between enhancing private investment and expanding the public sector's role in home building.
