The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has accused Canada Post of laying off several employees participating in the strike, describing it as a “bullying tactic.” The union announced via a notice published on Monday that it is looking into these allegations.
The strike, involving over 55,000 workers, has been ongoing for about two weeks and stems from workers' demands for improved wages, benefits, and working conditions. In response, Canada Post defends the need for operational changes due to financial challenges and changing demand for services.
The union believes that these actions are aimed at pressuring employees and weakening their negotiating position. Meanwhile, Canada Post has not yet issued a detailed statement regarding these allegations.
This move adds further tension to the ongoing dispute, reflecting the difficulty of reaching a settlement that satisfies both parties.
