The leader of the Canadian Conservative Party, Pierre Poilievre, launched a sharp attack on Mark Carney, the leader of the new Liberal Party, accusing him of attempting to “deceive Canadians” by continuing the policies of former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, which led to an economic crisis and rising inflation rates. Poilievre's comments came during a massive election rally attended by around 3,000 people in London, Ontario, where he portrayed Carney as an extension of Trudeau's failed policies, asserting that the Conservatives “will not allow him or Donald Trump to harm the Canadian economy.”

1. Accusations of Tax Increases and Worsening Cost of Living Crisis

Poilievre accused Mark Carney of being responsible for advising Trudeau to raise taxes, which resulted in increased costs for housing, food, and energy. He explained that Carney, as an economic advisor to Trudeau, played a direct role in the rise of living costs, as he advised increasing the “carbon tax” that burdened Canadian families.

Poilievre added that Carney is now trying to mislead voters by claiming that he will suspend the carbon tax even after the elections, but in reality, he previously stated that this tax is “implemented very low” and that he plans to increase its value by eliminating exemptions, which will ultimately impose greater costs on Canadian families.

2. Financial Conflicts of Interest and Refusal to Disclose Assets

Poilievre accused Carney of exploiting a legal loophole in the “Conflict of Interest Act,” allowing him to avoid disclosing his financial assets despite the potential conflict with Canadian national interests. He pointed out that Carney invested in companies and projects in the United States, leading to the transfer of jobs and investments from Canada to the U.S., benefiting from his relationship with former U.S. President Donald Trump.

Poilievre confirmed that Carney has so far refused to disclose his personal wealth and financial interests, even though he would become Prime Minister temporarily for four months, giving him the power to make decisions that could affect Canadian national interests.

3. Transfer of Jobs and Investments to the United States

Poilievre noted that Carney directly supported Brookfield's decision to relocate its headquarters from Toronto to New York, just six days after Trump threatened to impose tariffs on Canada. He added that Carney attempted to deny these allegations, but the Conservatives revealed a letter written by Carney himself urging company shareholders to vote in favor of this relocation.

He also accused Carney of supporting the transfer of pipelines from Canada to South America and the Middle East, while he was working to disrupt local pipeline projects in Canada.

4. “Budget Manipulation” and Attempt to Conceal the Deficit

Poilievre accused Carney of planning to use an “accounting trick” to conceal the financial deficit caused by excessive government spending during the Liberals' rule. He explained that Carney would attempt to shift government spending to different “credit cards” in an effort to hide public debt, while Canadian citizens would ultimately bear the cost of this debt through increased taxes and rising inflation.

5. Inconsistencies in Statements and Positions

Poilievre revealed a series of contradictions in Carney's positions, including:

• Carney's claim that he did not participate in the decision to move Brookfield's headquarters to New York, despite evidence proving his direct involvement in the decision.

• His statement that he helped former Prime Minister Paul Martin balance the federal budget in 1998, while he was not in Canada at that time.

• His contradictory statements regarding pipeline construction; he promised in English to use his federal powers to build pipelines, yet denied this in a speech in French before an audience in Quebec.

6. Food Prices Crisis

Poilievre accused Carney of trying to “blame” Canadians for the food price crisis, where Carney stated that the main reason for this crisis is the “decline in productivity” in the country. Poilievre considered this statement a reflection of Carney’s detachment from the daily reality of Canadians, emphasizing that the real reason for rising prices is the failed economic policies that Carney endorsed as an economic advisor to Trudeau.

7. Ambiguity Regarding Future Policies

Poilievre accused Carney of refusing to disclose his economic plans in case he wins the elections, especially concerning the carbon tax, budget deficit, and his stance on investment policies. He pointed out that Carney remains silent about how he will deal with rising inflation and the deterioration of Canadians’ purchasing power.

Conservative Reaction

Poilievre concluded his speech by emphasizing that the conservatives “will not allow Mark Carney or Donald Trump” to control Canada's future. He said:

“We will not let Carney re-implement Trudeau's failed policies. We will work to lower taxes, support domestic production, protect jobs, and restore Canada’s economic sovereignty.”

The Political Scene in Canada

This confrontation between Poilievre and Carney is one of the main highlights of the upcoming election campaign in Canada. While the Liberals are trying to rebuild voter trust under Carney's leadership, the Conservatives are seeking to capitalize on public anger over rising prices and the deteriorating economic situation to gain support from Canadians.
