The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights announced today a sudden and rapid withdrawal of American forces from two major military bases in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, controlled by the "Syrian Democratic Forces" (SDF), in a notable field development in northeastern Syria.
According to Observatory sources, the withdrawal process began gradually since May 18, but has noticeably accelerated over the past two days. American military convoys, consisting of armored vehicles and logistical equipment, were seen leaving their locations at the Al-Omar oil field and the Conoco gas plant, amid intensified air activity from the international coalition.
The Al-Omar oil field is the largest American base in Syria, and these bases have been targeted repeatedly over the past two years by Iran-aligned armed groups, according to multiple reports.
Following the withdrawal, the SDF commandos were stationed at the locations vacated by the American forces. Meanwhile, Observatory sources reported that joint military operations against ISIS will continue, supported by the international coalition which maintains its presence at the Al-Shaddadi base south of Hasakah province.
This withdrawal is considered one of the most significant American military moves in Syria in recent months, raising questions about the repositioning of American forces and their operational priorities in light of the ongoing regional escalation.
