Germany exported more electric cars than it imported last year.
The Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden announced today, Tuesday, that 786,000 electric cars were exported compared to 446,000 electric cars imported from other countries.
In terms of value, exports also significantly outperformed imports, with the former valued at 36 billion euros, compared to 14.1 billion euros for the latter.
According to the data, China was the largest importer of German electric cars with a share of 29%, ahead of Korea with just under 10%.
Exports of purely electric vehicles grew by 58% last year, compared to an increase in imports of 23.5%.
The office noted that electric cars accounted for only about 25% of German car exports last year. According to the data, German factories produced 973,000 electric cars, a rise of 59.9%, compared to 2.4 million cars with combustion engines, an increase of 7.9%.
