Ottawa – Arab Canada News
The number of signatories on a petition calling for the dismissal of a controversial candidate from the Conservative Party has reached 15,000 signatures, amid growing pressure on the party leadership to take a decisive stance regarding his previous statements.
The petition, which has spread widely online, concerns the candidate for a riding in Ontario, who has faced criticism for statements deemed “incendiary” and “inappropriate” on social media, in addition to previous posts that have recently been circulated again and described as “offensive and divisive.”
The petition calls on the Conservative Party leadership to withdraw the candidate's nomination immediately, asserting that “the documented behavior does not reflect the values of Canadian society and cannot be overlooked in the current political context.”
For its part, the party has not yet issued an official stance regarding the candidate's future, but it confirmed in a previous statement that it “does not tolerate any form of intolerance or hatred, and takes these matters seriously.”
These developments come at a critical time in the federal election campaign, where each party seeks to maintain its public image and attract undecided voters, especially in swing ridings.
It is noteworthy that the Conservative Party has dismissed several candidates in recent weeks due to controversial statements or positions, in a move considered an attempt to contain political damage ahead of the polling date.
