Early voting began today, Friday, across Canada, with polling stations opening to voters wishing to cast their ballots ahead of the official election day scheduled for later this month. This phase is a crucial stop in the course of the federal elections of 2025, which are witnessing fierce competition among the main parties for leadership of the country amidst rising economic and geopolitical challenges.
The early voting process continues from Friday, April 18, to Monday, April 21, with polling stations opening daily from 9 AM to 9 PM local time, according to Elections Canada.
This phase aims to facilitate voter participation by providing greater time flexibility, especially given the increasing turnout for early voting in recent elections as a convenient and secure option.
The launch of early voting comes at a time when the intensity of election campaigns is rising, as party leaders continue their campaign tours across the country, focusing on issues like the economy, taxes, housing, and foreign policy. Recent polls show the Liberal Party leading by a narrow margin over the Conservatives in a race described as the most competitive in years.
Voters wishing to vote early are advised to check their voter cards or visit the official Elections Canada website to find their designated polling locations and voting requirements, including the necessity of bringing identification and proof of address.
Results from early voting are expected to provide initial indicators of general trends, especially in swing ridings, with two weeks remaining until the official election day.
