Toronto – Arab Canada News
In a notable escalation of political rhetoric on the eve of the federal elections, Ontario Premier Doug Ford called on Canadians to "fight like we've never fought before" to confront attempts by U.S. President Donald Trump to influence the democratic decision-making in Canada.
Ford stated in his remarks today, Monday: "We must protect our democracy and our national sovereignty. This is a critical day in Canada's history, and we must respond firmly to any attempts at external interference,” referring directly to Trump's recent comments urging Canada to relinquish its independence and join the United States.
Ford emphasized that Canadians "alone hold the right to determine their destiny," highlighting the importance of widespread participation in the elections to safeguard national sovereignty and send a clear message to the world that Canada rejects oversight or dictates from any foreign entity.
These statements from the Ontario Premier come at a time when Canada is witnessing one of the most intense and competitive elections, amid rising concerns over external political interference and attempts to influence the will of the voters.
