This additional investment will help people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
The Government of Ontario is investing an additional $202 million annually in homelessness prevention programs to assist people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and to support community organizations that provide housing with support services.
In this context, Steve Clark, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, said: “We know that the housing crisis in Ontario affects all residents of the province, regardless of their circumstances and budgets. That is why we have increased funding for our homelessness prevention programs by more than 40%. These actions come in addition to the bold and fundamental changes we are making to address the housing supply crisis and accelerate the construction of more homes across the province.”
This new funding, announced in the 2023 budget, will also be invested through the Homelessness Prevention Program and the Supportive or Affordable Housing Program for Indigenous people, in addition to nearly $4 billion invested by the government over the past three years to provide more affordable housing and improve existing housing.
Peter Bethlenfalvy, Minister of Finance, also said: “In this time of economic challenges and changes, our government stands with people who are going through difficult times and are at risk of homelessness. The Ontario 2023 budget, building a cohesive and strong province, is the right plan to provide support to those who need it most while building a strong financial foundation for future generations.”
