New York - Agencies: New York Mayor Eric Adams has filed a lawsuit against U.S. President Donald Trump and his administration after withdrawing more than $80 million from government funds allocated for sheltering undocumented migrants.

Allegations of Misappropriation of Emergency Funds

According to U.S. media, the lawsuit was filed in the Southern District Court of New York, where the legal department of the City of New York accused Trump and his administration of committing "a crime of misappropriation" by withdrawing $80.5 million that was paid by the Federal Emergency Management Agency without prior notice.

The case also included Secretary of Homeland Security, Kirstjen Nielsen, and Secretary of the Treasury, Steven Mnuchin, along with President Trump.

New York Mayor: The city bears an unfair burden

In a statement, Adams said: “There is no doubt that our immigration system is broken, but the cost of managing an international humanitarian crisis should not fall on just one city.”

He pointed out that New York has spent over $7 billion from its budget on undocumented migrants over the past three years, considering that the $80 million provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency is not enough to address the crisis.

Elon Musk: $59 million spent on luxury hotels

In this context, Elon Musk, who leads the Government Efficiency Administration, stated that $59 million of the funds allocated for undocumented migrants in New York has been spent on their accommodation in luxury hotels, which has heightened the controversy over the allocation of these financial resources.

This case comes amid escalating disputes between the Trump administration and local officials in New York regarding immigration policies and federal funding, as the flow of migrants to the city continues to impact local resources.
