The Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not approved the entry of mobile homes (caravans) and engineering equipment into the Gaza Strip, following the conclusion of security discussions that took place on Saturday.
This decision comes despite the agreement between Israel and Hamas, regarding the ceasefire and the release of detainees, which stipulates allowing the entry of equipment and tools to build temporary housing, including at least 60,000 mobile units. However, Israel is still discussing with intermediaries the possibility of making adjustments to the agreement.
Israeli-American Coordination
In this context, a political source stated that the issue of entering mobile homes will be subject to further discussions in the coming days, noting that close coordination is ongoing between Israel and the United States on this matter.
These developments coincide with increasing pressures being exerted by intermediary countries on both Israel and Hamas to push them towards starting negotiations related to the second phase of the prisoner exchange deal.
Second Phase Negotiations
The Israeli Kan radio reported that there are confirmations from Israeli sources on the necessity of entering serious negotiations regarding the next phase, aiming to ensure the continuation of the release process for detainees in Gaza according to the agreement reached. It was expected that the talks would be completed by the end of next week, but they have not started yet, raising questions about the commitment of the parties to implement the terms of the agreement.
In a related context, Channel 12 in Israel reported that Tel Aviv is seeking to extend the first phase of the agreement, aiming to release more living prisoners, which could affect the course of future negotiations.
