Montreal: Warning of rapid freezing and strong winds

The temperature in Montreal reached 14.9 degrees Celsius by midday Tuesday, breaking the previous moderate temperature record set in 2000, when the city experienced a rise of 10.9 degrees Celsius.

However, the unusually warm temperatures will change by Wednesday evening, as a rapid freeze warning takes effect across most of central and southern Quebec, including the Montreal area, with temperatures expected to drop by about 15 to 20 degrees in some areas within just hours.

The weather in Montreal will also drop from 13 degrees Celsius in the afternoon to about -12 degrees Celsius on Wednesday night.

The Canadian Environment Ministry warning stated: "Surfaces such as highways, roads, sidewalks, and parking lots may become icy and slippery."

A severe wind warning was also issued for parts of southern Quebec, including the Greater Montreal area, on Wednesday evening, with winds expected to reach speeds of up to 90 km/h.

A rainfall warning issued in the Quebec City area also stated that the northern parts of the region could expect between 30 and 40 mm of rain.

On Thursday, forecasts indicate that the temperature will reach -8 degrees Celsius with a mix of sun and clouds and some wind.

Weather conditions in Montreal will improve by the weekend, with highs returning to the tens by Saturday.
