Parts of Ontario are experiencing a severe snowstorm lasting several days that can lead to snowfall accumulation of up to 40 cm and dangerous driving conditions.

The TWN weather network says: There is a long-lasting snow event in Northwestern Ontario with a severe storm creeping toward the area, and people around Thunder Bay may see more than 30-40 cm of snow over the next two days."

Environment Canada and the weather network indicated that travel may be hazardous, and Tuesday is likely to be the most affected day by the storm.

The weather network said: Widespread and long-lasting travel problems are expected throughout the region, including along the "Trans-Canada" highway.

Environment Canada issued a similar warning, noting that poor visibility and rapid snow accumulation could make travel difficult.

Snow conditions may persist for more than 60 hours in Northwestern Ontario starting Sunday evening.

The weather network added: Residents can expect continued snowfall periods directly during Tuesday before the low finally withdraws and gradually recedes on Wednesday. Snowfall will intensify on Tuesday evening as the storm peaks, with snowfall rates approaching 1-3 cm per hour north of Lake Superior."

By Wednesday morning, Thunder Bay and other areas could see snowfall ranging from 30 to 40 cm.

The weather network warns that "road closures are highly likely," and advised postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
