Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney urged the Israeli occupation authorities to immediately allow the United Nations World Food Programme to resume its humanitarian operations in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing that food "should not be used as a political tool," following the program's announcement of depleting its stocks due to the ongoing blockade.
Carney wrote in a post on the "X" platform (formerly Twitter): "The United Nations World Food Programme has just announced that its food supplies in Gaza have run out due to the blockade imposed by the Israeli occupation government. Food cannot be used as a political weapon."
The World Food Programme had announced on Friday the delivery of the last available supplies to community kitchens that provide hot meals for residents of the Strip, warning that food items will completely run out in the coming days amid the continued closure of all major border crossings for more than seven weeks, which is the longest blockade the Strip has ever experienced.
Carney added: "The World Food Programme must be allowed to operate to save lives," calling for urgent facilitation of humanitarian aid access.
In a related context, the Canadian Prime Minister reaffirmed his country's commitment to working with its international allies to achieve a "permanent ceasefire in Gaza" and ensure the "immediate return of all detainees."
This humanitarian escalation comes amid increasing warnings from international relief organizations about the deterioration of living and health conditions in the Gaza Strip as the food and medicine crisis worsens, along with the continued tight military blockade since early March.
