The Canadian Prime Minister, Mark Carney, pledged to maintain the retaliatory tariffs imposed on American products as long as the United States continues to impose trade duties on Canadian goods.
Carney confirmed that his country reserves the right to respond by imposing special tariffs, emphasizing that these measures will remain in place until Washington provides clear commitments regarding free and fair trade.
This step comes after the previous Trump administration imposed a 25% tariff on most Canadian and Mexican products, prompting Canada to respond with tariffs on American goods worth 30 billion Canadian dollars.
