Leaks from a private chat group on the "Signal" app, featuring several current and former U.S. officials, sparked a wave of controversy after revealing comments described as "mocking and offensive" towards European allies, primarily Germany and France, leaving a wide diplomatic fallout in Washington and Western capitals.

The messages disclosed in a recent report showed repeated grievances about “the U.S. having to save Europe again,” according to one participant, referring to rising geopolitical tensions and varying military and economic support for Ukraine.

Among the key points that stirred controversy:

1. Clear contempt for Europe: The messages included explicit phrases expressing weariness of Washington's commitments to the old continent, accusing some European countries of “perpetual reliance” on U.S. leadership.

2. Criticism aimed at Germany and France: Berlin was described as “indecisive,” and Paris as “more concerned with image than substance,” in a negative assessment of the two countries' performance in international crises.

3. Doubts about alliances: Some participants expressed their dissatisfaction with what they referred to as “European stagnation,” believing that traditional alliances need reassessment.

4. Internal turmoil within the U.S. institution: The leaks also revealed discrepancies in positions between national security officials and diplomats regarding the U.S. global role.

5. Concerns over the leak: Despite the privacy of the platform, some members expressed fears of a potential breach, which later materialized.

6. Calls for accountability of those involved: With the mounting pressure, U.S. lawmakers demanded a formal investigation and punishment for any government official implicated in comments that offend allies.

The White House declined to comment directly on the leaks but emphasized America's commitment to “its strategic relationships based on mutual respect,” in an attempt to contain the fallout.
