Toronto Police reported that two shootings at an intersection in North York occurred less than 24 hours apart, resulting in one death and a teenager seriously injured, and they are believed to be connected.

The incidents took place in the area of Jane Street and Driftwood Street south of Shoreham Street, with the latest occurring on Saturday afternoon.

Inspector Jeff Bangild said one person was waiting at a bus stop on Jane Street when the suspect approached and shot him three times - twice in the abdomen and once in the head.

Bangild explained that the victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition and later died.

Meanwhile, the suspect fled the scene in a black Acura RDX with license plate

Bangild believes the same suspect is responsible for the shooting that occurred at the same intersection on Friday night.

Bangild said a 16-year-old boy was standing outside a bus stop on Driftwood Street when another person - the suspect "met him and he was shot once in the face, and the victim was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, but the victim's condition stabilized.

The inspector said: "We believe, through our investigation at this stage, that these two incidents are connected."

The police have a limited description of the suspect - a Black male between 18 and 30 years old.

It is unclear whether the suspect knows the two victims, but the inspector said the incidents appear random.

Bangild added: "We recognize this is very serious and extremely concerning for the public, causing a great deal of worry, and this behavior is unusual and unacceptable."

The two incidents are being investigated jointly by the Homicide Unit and Organized Crime Enforcement.

Bangild noted that there is a possibility the suspect is driving another vehicle or using another mode of transportation.

He said: "We are asking the public to be vigilant, definitely pay attention to that vehicle, and report anything that may be suspicious."

He added that residents in the area should expect a continued strong police presence as officers collect evidence and search for witnesses.
