Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon killed three members of Hezbollah today, Saturday, according to the Lebanese group, which retaliated by launching a missile attack on the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, resulting in several injuries.
The Israeli ambulance service Magen David Adom initially reported 11 injuries, five of whom were in serious condition while the other six sustained serious injuries.
Hezbollah stated in a statement that the attack, which saw its operatives launch Katyusha rockets at an Israeli army site in the Golan Heights, was a response to the Israeli airstrikes on villages in southern Lebanon. The group had earlier said that three of its members were killed on Saturday without specifying the location.
The Israeli army said its air force targeted a weapons depot for Hezbollah in the border village of Kfar Killa, adding that the activists were inside at that time.
Israel captured the Golan Heights from Syria during the 1967 war and later annexed it in 1981.
Israel and Hezbollah have exchanged fire almost daily since the outbreak of the war in Gaza following Hamas's surprise attack on October 7, which resulted in the deaths of around 1,200 people and the captivity of 250 others as hostages. Israel launched an offensive that has so far killed more than 39,000 people, according to local health authorities, and displaced over 80% of the area's population, triggering a humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip.
In recent weeks, exchanges of fire along the Lebanese-Israeli border have intensified, with Israel conducting airstrikes and Hezbollah launching missile and drone attacks deeper and further from the border.
Since early October, Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon have resulted in the deaths of more than 450 people, most of whom are Hezbollah members, and nearly 90 civilians. On the Israeli side, 21 soldiers and 13 civilians have been killed.
