A CBC investigation revealed that thousands of accounts at the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) were hacked in organized attacks, during which the attackers exploited stolen data from other websites.
The attacks targeted the theft of personal information and the acquisition of government financial benefits. The CRA confirmed that it is working to enhance security measures, while security experts urged citizens to use strong passwords and enable two-factor authentication.
